Will there be spousal support or alimony ordered?
There are two types of money that may be ordered to be paid by one spouse to the other on a monthly basis, during and/or after the divorce. Spousal Maintenance and Contractual Alimony. In Texas, Spousal Maintenance refers to payments to a spouse as determined by a court during the divorce process, whereas Contractual Alimony refers to payments agreed upon between the divorcing parties in a contract or out-of-court settlement. There can be tax benefits to choosing one versus the other.
